Our Eel Skin

Makki uses the finest grade of Eel Skin. The skin is much softer than cow hide, although it is approximately 3 times stronger. The designs are hand made & hand dyed. The Eel skin is a by product of the food industry & the eels are not farmed for the fashion industry.

Designs are treated with a leather protector spray at the production stage, although if you wish to further protect your eel skin, please use a leather protector/spray & to clean, a leather cleaner.

We often have customers saying they have been using an Eel skin wallet or purse for over 20 years & how soft the skin becomes over time, proving the durability of the skin.

Our Eel skin is extremely durable, although care must be taken near alcohol, as with most dyes the alcohol can affect the colour. Treated with care, the designs last for many years & will become softer & softer with use.
